How to make a Caramel Macchiato like Starbucks!

The Caramel Macchiato is one of my favorite drinks whether we are at Starbucks ( one of our favorite haunts) or a local coffee place. Do not be intimidated, it is very easy with make! All you need is some milk, vanilla syrup, brewed espresso, and caramel syrup for the top. You can have a Caramel Macchiato in the comfort of your home within a few minutes!
You might be wondering about the vanilla syrup. You can easily buy any brand of vanilla "latte" syrup. Starbucks sells it in the coffee aisle at most grocers or you can buy it from a Starbucks location. Other brands include Torani which is also sold at most grocery stores. If your like me, you can save some dollars and make your own. Here is a link to my homemade simple vanilla syrup.
Caramel Macchiato

1 shot of brewed espresso

2 Tablespoons vanilla syrup

3/4 cup of 2% milk

Caramel syrup for drizzling


1.) Brew espresso and set aside.

2.) Pour 2 Tablespoons of vanilla syrup into a microwave safe measuring cup along with 3/4 cup of milk. Heat in the microwave for 1 -1:30 minutes. ( You can opt to heat in a saucepan on the stove if you wish. )

3.) Remove warmed milk mixture from the microwave and froth. ( I use an Aerolatte wand. If you don't have one, you can shake the mixture in a jar with a lid screwed on tight or use a whisk to mix vigourously. )

4.) Pour frothed milk mixture into your coffee cup. Pour shot of espresso over the milk. It will look a little something like the photo below.

5.) Drizzle caramel syrup and enjoy!

Macchiato means "stained" or "marked" in Italian. The difference between the macchiato and the latte is the espresso is poured over the milk leaving it's mark as shown above.

Once you pour drizzle the caramel syrup you will have a gorgeous macchiato! Sometimes I enjoy these in the comfort of my own home and sometimes I make them to take with me on the go.
